In winter you can come to us for a cup of coffee or visit the shop, but the restaurant or the houses are not available in winter. It is getting more and more difficult due to the warming climate to organize winter activities because we simply no longer have snow guarentee. Too often during the winter all the snow melts away and it becomes a big skating plate and then unfortunately we can’t do anything with the horses…
The campsite, on the other hand, is open all year round.
In winter it can occasionally freeze to about -30 degrees. But in general it is not that cold (-10/-20). Because the weather is often sunny during the day and it is not so windy here, it does not feel so cold. Especially if you are active, you will not get cold easily.
The Swedish winter landscape is wonderfully beautiful and it is wonderful to take snow walks and look for tracks of wildlife. We regularly see moose and deer tracks but also very often wolves and lynx tracks around the ranch!
Keep in mind that during the shortest days of winter (around December 21) it only gets light around 9am and gets dark again at 3pm. In contrast, in the summer (around June 21) it does not get dark at all.
In general, there is snow from mid/late December and the snow starts to thaw again around early/mid March. But you know: nothing is as changeable as the weather. We therefore do not dare to make concrete predictions or guarantee snow security.
In the winter there are various activities with the colleagues: you can go on a snowmobile safari or Husky sled ride (www.highyard.nl).
Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and ice skating
In the winter you can ski in the centre of Ekshärad on and around the ski mountain (directly behind supermarket ICA). The ski mountain has one ski lift and 2-3 descents. There is a 5 km long lit cross-country ski run and the ice skating spot is even free of access. On several evenings in the week you can do all these 3 activities. If you want a larger ski area then Branäs (www.branas.se) or Hovfjället (hovfjallet.se) is another alternative.
